LYFE Offshore is a navigation aid, not a replacement for seamanship
This app is designed to help you stay informed at sea — not to replace your judgment, your watch-keeping, your official nautical charts, or the rules of the road. You are the skipper. You are responsible for the safety of your vessel and everyone aboard, at all times.
No software can guarantee GPS accuracy, AIS coverage, or uninterrupted operation in all conditions. Alerts may be delayed, missed, or incorrect. Offshore sailing is inherently dangerous. Use LYFE Offshore as one layer of awareness — never as your only one.
Acceptance of terms
By downloading or using LYFE Offshore (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
These terms apply to all users of the App, including anyone who accesses our website or joins the waitlist.
What the app does — and what it doesn't
LYFE Offshore provides monitoring features including:
- Anchor Watch — GPS-based drag detection using a user-defined radius
- AIS Watch — proximity and closest point of approach (CPA) alerts based on received AIS data
- Smart Alerts — configurable notifications for wind, depth, battery, and connected NMEA instrument data
These features are provided as supplemental situational awareness tools. They are not certified navigation systems, and they do not replace:
- Official nautical charts and publications
- A proper deck watch and human lookout
- Compliance with COLREGS (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea)
- Coast Guard requirements or local maritime law
- Radar, VHF radio, or other primary safety equipment
Known limitations and inherent risks
By using the App you acknowledge that:
- GPS positioning may be inaccurate, delayed, or unavailable due to signal conditions, device limitations, or interference
- AIS data depends on other vessels broadcasting and is not comprehensive — not all vessels transmit AIS, and coverage may be incomplete or outdated
- The App requires an active device, sufficient battery, and uninterrupted NMEA connectivity where applicable — all of which can fail at sea
- Alerts may not fire in time to prevent a collision, grounding, or dragging anchor — particularly if the device is in low-power mode, the app is backgrounded, or network conditions degrade notifications
- Software bugs exist. No application is free of errors.
These are not hypothetical risks. Plan accordingly. Maintain a physical anchor watch. Maintain a proper lookout. Do not rely on any single system.
Your responsibilities
You agree that you will:
- Use the App only as a supplemental aid and never as a primary means of navigation or collision avoidance
- Maintain compliance with COLREGS and all applicable maritime laws at all times
- Carry and use official nautical charts appropriate for your passage
- Ensure the App is properly configured for your vessel before relying on any alerts
- Not use the App while impaired, distracted, or in conditions that require your full undivided attention
No warranty
LYFE Offshore is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We make no representations or warranties regarding the accuracy, reliability, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose of the App or any information it provides.
We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of bugs. We do not warrant that alerts will fire in all circumstances or that GPS and AIS data will be current and accurate.
Your use of the App is entirely at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, LYFE Offshore, its developer (Kalle Coster), and any affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the App.
This includes, without limitation, damages resulting from vessel grounding, collision, dragging anchor, personal injury, loss of life, property damage, or any other harm arising from reliance on App data or the failure of any App feature to function as expected.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain liabilities. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Intellectual property
All content, design, code, and branding in the App and on the LYFE Offshore website are the property of Kalle Coster and are protected by applicable copyright and intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without express written permission.
Changes to the app and these terms
We may update or discontinue features of the App at any time without notice. We may also revise these Terms of Service from time to time. When we do, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
If we make changes that significantly affect your rights or safety obligations, we will make reasonable efforts to notify waitlist and app users directly.
Governing law
These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes arising from or related to these terms or your use of the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in the Netherlands, unless otherwise required by applicable consumer protection law in your jurisdiction.
